Personality
Shanghai works as a chef, usually anywhere that will take him. He best likes preparing sushi, but cooking overall fascinates him. He's a huge foodie, usually nothing that he doesn't like. In all his years of preparing and serving, the only thing he has yet to like is the delicacy of raw octopus. The tentacles are still moving an active when served, and the feeling of having something equivalent to being alive in his mouth just isn't very pleasant to him. So, he'll work at really whatever restaurant needs a chef, not setting a standard for himself. He knows he's not the best chef in the world, and only likes cooking because it's his passion, so why should he care where he works? Really as long as he's able to cook for a living, he'll be fine. His favorite cooking show is Frankenfoods, loving the way two - or more - completely different things could be brought together to create something fantastic. He's tried before but the only successful thing he's made is a peanut butter and pickles sandwich. It wasn't all too bad, but he'd rather stick to sushi and the like. He currently works at a restaurant in New York, a Japanese place that took him in as they were desperate and he was roaming the streets. They were pleasantly surprised at his skill under a chef hat, and haven't had a reason to fire him yet. Usually the reason he gets fired, if he gets fired at all, is the way he cooks. Something about recipes and cook books bother him, and he'll usually estimate how much of something is supposed to be in something. This makes everything on the menu come out differently the second time you get it. Since restaurants need the consistency to be successful, poor Shanghai hasn't been anywhere for too long. But he loves what he does, and will go through any restaurant that's out there as long as he gets to cook. Shanghai lives wherever his work is, so that means he is currently living close to New York. He has a small house in Connecticut, which is only about a thirty minute drive from the ship he works at. Shanghai is grateful for it too, out of all the houses he's lived in, the house that he had in Connecticut is his favorite. Nice little neighborhood, the house isn't too big but the kitchen is magnificent. But unfortunately, if and when he gets fired from the Japanese restaurant he currently works at, he'll have to search for a job elsewhere, leaving his beloved kitchen behind. What can you do though, right? Maybe he'll find a place that has a better kitchen somewhere else. Shanghai is a quiet one at heart, but otherwise loves people. Unlike the waiters, he doesn't see customers at all. And while he's had some plates of food brought back to him (probably because it didn't taste the same as last time), he never really interacts with anyone in the kitchen. He likes to think that if he did, he'd be really nice, but who knows? He doesn't talk very much to anyone, but will be sure to give a smile and a wave to everyone on his way out.
